Or do you feel that, even on a sub concious level, we are looking to benefit from a situation even when not appearing to.
I believe we are capable of being alturistic. Just curious as to what others think...

Yes. At the most basic level that is really what Buddhism is. Clarifying ones mind to ensure ones mental intent is always pure.

I think sane people are incapable of intentionally acting against their own perceived self interest. Even apparent acts of altruism have selfish motives for anyone who is not insane.

i think everyone is capable just few do it because they feel others will take advantage
