It is all about what we want. We put ourselves first instead of putting God and the church first. Remember, God is the one who provides that money to us, so really, the entire pay packet is His. He only asks for 10 percent.

We forget that everything belongs to God in the first place. He's just giving us temporary use of what we have, whether it's money or anything else. For that matter, if we gave just 10 percent of our income to churches or other ministries, we would see a lot more people being helped by churches than by government services--food, shelter, clothing, etc.--but as it is, we waste huge portions of our income on stuff that doesn't last. I think our lack of giving back to God shows that we value our own priorities more than we value God's priorities.
Having said that. I have major problems with churches taking on huge amounts of debt for their building programs and having to pay for building maintenance. We seriously need to get back to doing what people did back in Jesus' day--meeting in people's homes and other places that wouldn't require a large portion of a church's income to be essentially thrown away. I've written a few blog entries at the links below addressing Christians' stewardship, or lack of it.

The church is NOT a business--or at least it shouldn't be. I think the problem most people have with churches asking for money is tht most of the money they get goes to pay the minister a huge salary, pay for a fancy church and other luxuries. The money should be used to help the poor and needy, not send the pastor on vacation or pay for his million dollar mansion.

A church is not a business, but if it has the blessing of the holy spirit, it doesn't need to ask for money. It just comes to them. JWs don't ask for money, or pass the plate, yet they survive. They have no retail businesses they are involved in, and in fact are catching flack from NYC over refusing to have retail businesses on the first floor of their new residential buildings.

The church is a group of believers who share their love for our savior Jesus Christ. By giving to the church you are showing God that you love him more than your earthly needs. It is written to give a tenth of all your income, can not do it, then you still do not have the love of Christ. Jesus said life is more than clothing and more than food, so to us money should be nothing for we are rich in heaven, where your treasure is so is your heart. To give to the church is to support the man of God so he does not have to work and just focuses all day on gods word. In biblical times the priest were completely supported by the generosity of the people so that their sole purpose was to the lords work. the pastor's sole work is the ministry just as the apostle Paul. to concern him self not with this world but only of the things of god. This is important so that when he preaches, he preaches completely in the spirit of god so that the holy spirit can convict and change those in need of gods word. To give to a man or woman of god is to love ones own soul, every time some one has helped me I can say without a doubt that God has richly blessed them.

Wow, do you think Satan wants you to prosper? Do you think Satan wants you to have a brake through in fiances?
Its not flesh and blood we are dealing with here, its plan, its Satan, the prince of the Earth to destroy the kingdom of God.
God said , where have you robed me? In your tithes and off rings.
No thief will enter into the kingdom of God.
He is talking here on earth we can come into the Kingdom of God, Jesus spoke of it, the Kingdom Of God is at hand.
Satan doesn't want anyone to to know this.
our weapons of our warfare is mighty through the pulling down of strong holds.
If we walk in the flesh we die in the flesh, that is we let Satan rule in our giving, an all of our life, and he comes to still, kill, and destroy, he has done this to our Church, and our leaders are not teaching the power of Giving, and the freedom of it brings into our lives when we stop living under the curse, and live in the promises,
Satan has brought darkness into the Word of God, by his power, and he answerer's prayer, this is his kingdom. And if he can get people so blind to robbing God of what is his, he is going and is doing it.
Its the power of darkness at work, not man.
Prince of this kingdom. when in fact we are to be living in the realm of the KINGDOM OF GOD.
BOY ARE WE MIXED UP, OR WHAT.

I stopped when the pastor said "Because of the cost of living, we are increasing the tithing to 15%". I felt God would have already anticipated cost of living so I chose to send 10% to Africa every month instead.

Why do we have to give? I'd rather give it to some needy people than to a church.
