I would like to start a group similar to a church. The main difference is that none of us are christians. Does anyone know what I should do first?

Advertise in the Pennysaver and on craigslist that you have religious meetings available. Then apply for exempt status and don't pay taxes plus solicit funds for your support.

Determine a place to meet and begin holding meetings to establish a congregation/group. Decide on a name and select a leader and you have the beginnings of a "church". Check from there with your local IRS office and city/county auditors/licensing departments and ask for information on what your group needs for recognition as a religious group and follow their guidelines for rules, etc. Contacting the IRS or your local bookkeeper will give the "pastor" or "pastorette" the info needed for taxes and exemptions.

The first thing you need to do is file for non-profit status. It isn't too hard; I did it for my medieval re-enactment group. You don't have to be christian to be a church. Just fill out the paperwork and send it in. If you are uncomfortable doing it yourself, go to an attorney.

Thats how you begin, gathering people! People whit your same interests and beliefs, then you establish a doctrine and a liturgy. Who are you worshipping?
On a side note, do you have noble intentions? If you don't, count me in! I always wanted to live in a golden church, whit a lot of echo and classical sculptures of barebreasted greek godesses, in carrara of course!

I guess lease out a small building first and gather a group of fellow believers. That's about how all of them started out.

yeah think of a believable God ,and then find confused enough people to follow you
I am Pagan ,Baal,Gaia and Isis are pretty good and they really exist
the Sun,the Earth,and the Moon
and you can have lots of parties
and sacrice things
spend a lot of the t5ime in the garden
a real fun religion

First you need to choose a god, one that won't go around smiting everyone, and then you need to ask him or her to show you the way to start your own church.

Have a Bible study at your house and invite your friends. And then you can become Christian. If that is not to your liking, join a cult,

a 'group' can be a bunch of people that meet at your home. Maybe since you are not of God then you are of ........guess who?
Maybe you can pray to guess who for guidance. May God have mercy.
