I have a bunch of hamburger that has been frozen for 3 years. It was cut at a butcher, wrapped in plastic wrap then freezer paper and taped up. If thawed, will it still be edible? Ive heard one or two years is ok. Anyone know anything else?

I try not to keep meat for more than 6 months in my freezer. However it would probably depend on how well packaged it was.

My critirea are....

1) Are there ice crystal on the food?
2) Is the packaging fully intact still covering the food?
3) Does it smell as its dethawed?
4) Is the Color of the fluid dripping off the package approperaitley colored?
5) does it Smell bad as your cooking it?

If there are ice crystals on the food Toss!
If the packaging isn't in tack TOSS!
If it smells at all at any point TOSS
If the Color doesn't look right TOSS

I always say when in doubt toss, beat Stomach issues!

If there's a week left on the chicken and you freeze it, then next month you pull it out and let it defrost it will still have some time left before it spoils. Maybe not a week, but definitely a few more days. Just don't keep it in the freezer too long. A couple of months is okay. A year or more is bad. You can cook it and then freeze it as well but I find that changes the taste when it's defrosted.

Hey, Well I think you should throw it away after 3 years, lol dont eat it, and the most a haabuger meat, such as ground beef, should only stay frozen for about 3 months after that it usually starts going bad. so remember DON'T EAT IT, DONT EVEN GIVE IT TO A DOG.

Your health and wellbeing are the most important thing. Take care of yourself ... don't risk it ... it isnt worth it! It wouldn't taste nice anyhow if it has been sitting in a freezer for 3 years!
