Agnostic is NOT a religion. An agnostic is someone who professes not to know whether or not god exists.
Agnostic:
1. a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
2. a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study.

Actual definitions:
Agnostic - someone who believes there is not enough evidence to say God does *not* exist.
Athiest - someone who believes there is not enough evidence to say God does.
In my personal opinion, most agnostics are just people who are too scared to be athiests. While athiest are mad at God....oh but he doesn't exist so.... Why are they so mad?
Of course, there are also those who call themself agnostics because they want to make up their own God, and not follow any relgion...let alone any past knowledge and proven logic. These people are usually jaded by a painful religious upbringing. Where they were never given a proper understanding of the truth.
There are also those agnostics who talk about spirituality all the time and hold major grudges against religion. I personally can't stand these people, but I'm supposed to love them anyway. I was once like them. Yet, when I hit my bottom I accepted reality. They still fight it.
Then of course, there are gnostics. Completely different than agnostics. Gnostics are responsible for a bunch of false gospels written over 100 years after the original gospels were written. They are to thank for things like the Da Vinci Code. They believe some pretty crazy things. Like: the body is bad. the flesh is wicked. the created world is bad. the spiritual world is the only thing that's important. They in fact used to intentionally commit mortal sins on holy days in rebellion against the church. They don't have much of a sense of morality. No hell really. Just enlightenment and non. Anyway, it's a lot to learn and I don't remember it all. They also believe Mary Magdelene was a goddess and Jesus married her and had kids. Also that Mary was not a perpetual virgin as Jesus had brothers (which he did, they were his step-brothers, sons of Joseph).
anyway...

It is never dumb to ask a question about something you don't know or understand. It IS dumb, however, to answer a question when you don't know what the answer is (such as the answer below which says "It means that you don't believe in God").
Generally speaking, an agnostic, as well as an atheist, bases their beliefs on logic, reason and evidence rather than mythology, Christian or otherwise. Whereas an atheist believes firmly that God does NOT exist, an agnostic believes that God (or gods) may or may not exist, but if he does (or she or they), we cannot know because he has not verifiably and unquestionably made his existence known to humanity.
Despite what most fundamentalist Christians say, it is not possible to prove the existence of God. They would say that the phenomenon of a new-born baby, or a tree or mountain, is proof of God's existence. This is like saying that the presence of a flower proves that there is a gardener. Anyone who has stood in a field of wildflowers knows that is not true. One does not logically follow from the other.
The fact is, there is absolutely no physical or empiricle evidence of the existence or presence of the omnipotent, loving God taught about in Judaism or Christianity, any more than there is for the existence of Vishnu, Moroni, Allah, Zeus, Osiris or Quetzalcoatl (Aztec).
An agnostic, therefore, thinks that a firm belief in God - any god - is illogical and unjustified.

It means you don't know if there is a god or not.
Some people use the word in a stronger form meaning that you think its not possible to know if there is a god or not.
Atheists think that there is no god. I personally am an atheist with respect to the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) -- I think the stories in that book are all myths, for example like Greek mythology. Since most god believers believe in a god derived form the Hebrew Bible, most people would consider me atheist.
But if you are willing to set aside the Hebrew Bible, then I am an agnostic, and very close to a strong agnostic.

in case you prefer a date lots, ask somebody. you may not sit down there hoping the guy you prefer to ask you will telepathically comprehend you like him. From this it definitely looks such as you in basic terms prefer to bypass with every physique, just to declare you have a date. and what's the think approximately that? i could extremely bypass with my friends than a guy a do not in all probability comprehend/like till it became a chum. and what's incorrect with asking a guy buddy to promenade as friends? How a ways does praying get all of the folk who're suffering with real issues? not a ways. and that's existence or dying circumstances, not 'i prefer a date for promenade'.

that an agnostic thinks there may, or may not be a God, but that they don't know for sure.

The word Agnostic is used to describe someone who is unsure about the existance of God, meaning they can't decide whether or not God trully exists or not.
The word itself means "without knowledge". "a-" meaning the opposite of, "gnosis" meaning knowlege. So they're not sure 'cuz they don't know.

Atheist means you do not believe in G-d. Agnostic means you are not sure if there is a G-d, or not.
