There are many German Shepard rescues across the country. Keep in mind you may not be able to find a small GSD pup but don;t let that deter you from getting one. I have had many and they are probably the most intelligent, loving , family dog you can find. They are naturally protective of their home and family. And are wonderful with children. I have been handling GSD dogs since 1992 in a law enforcement capacity and my dogs love children. And even though they will catch bad guys from time to time they would never hurt a child or any one for that matter without provocation. If you have never owned one you should study up on the breed because they do require a good deal of activity. Obedience training is key. They love it. It teaches them social skills with other people and dogs and gives them mental stimuli. The more you know about the breed the easier it will be.

The best place to find a pet is the Humane Society. But if you have your heart on a German Shepherd Dog, then do your homework! These dogs are high-energy breeds. They need obedience training and must be kept busy. If they do not have something to do they will find something and it could result in destructive behaviour. They also can be very dominant, therefore you must ensure that the pup knows you are the "alpha" and s/he is the submissive one.
You can try looking at adverts in your local newspaper or try googling "German Shepherd Rescue". If you choose a dog from a rescue group they will most likely require references. Have your veterinarian's number ready!

Why "PUPPIES" - why the plural??
Sounds like you want several dogs for some purpose??
Given all the hereditary illnesses and physical problems in GSD, it sounds as if you want several and don't care about the gneic history.
Not going to do backyard breeding with poor specimens of the breed (and that is any puppy that is "cheap" of "free") are you?
Maybe open a puppy mill???
No responsible person would give information to any one who wants a whole bunch of free puppies in one breed.
By the way, no dog coming through a breed club rescue if free. You have to pay an adoption fee and responsible rescues or shelters will insist they be spayed/neutered before you get them.

I would recommend you not get free GSD's; they tend to have lots of hereditary problems from inbreeding, and will usually die early and cost a lot of money to maintain if they do become diseased or riddled with joint problems and hip displasia, which is common in low quality GSD's. They also tend to become high energy agressive dogs, most dog bites come from GSD's and GSD mixes.
I would go to petfinder.com and find a dog in need or a mixed breed puppy; they are usually much more healthy, long lived and well rounded.
