Has anyone had a child share a room with you for a few years and then got a place to wear they will get their own room. How easy or difficult was it to transition them and what did you do that worked to help them.

For a three year old, the transition can be a little easier. I would talk to her about it a lot, in a really positive way. Chat with her about how things will be different, but some things will be the same. I.E. "after we read a story, you will sleep in your new room and mom will go to her bed. We will see each other when the sun is up!" etc...

Let her pick out some stuff for her new room, a new blanket, a night light, even just wall decals from the dollar store;-)

My dd ended up in our breakfast nook as a bedroom at age 3 because I was a single mom and starting to date again. She got Powerpuff Girl bedding and was sooo happy!

The first few months were great. But after that, the new wore off and he was back in our bed. It took two years and a second child for our son to make the transition.

All of our kids co slept with us and it wasn't hard to transition them into their own rooms. Just took a little time, patience and love ;o)
