I like that thought. Sometimes we say it just like a courtesy that's overdone, as in after a sneeze. However, if you change it slightly it becomes a thought to consider how God does bless us daily, and it is GOD who blesses, so we could turn our thoughts to our blessed LORD. Of course, this too, could become hackneyed and common, but for the present, it's new and fresh. Just like God says "Sing a new song unto the Lord," I think that is a phrase that is worth considering afresh. Let our blessings be fresh and real, not just the thing to say.

God is a very special term, so we use bless instead of blesses. Just like the word "you", people doesn't say "you was", instead they say "you were" so different words apply with different term.

i guess because the other words to the phrase are left out. what they mean is a well-wishing "God bless you" instead of a statement that God blesses people.

God bless is meant for a singular instance; God blesses is for more than one.

Um, because god bless makes sense in the context, and god blesses doesn't...

Becuase they are asking God to bless you, not telling you that s/he does.

Because it's short for "May God bless you" ... people leave the "May" off, and sometimes even the "you" off
