On the TV show "Everybody Hates Chris", a character that stole candy from all the kids on Halloween was to have died two years later from gingivitus, as said by the narrator (Chris Rock). I know its a comedy show, but is there any truth in this?

The infection can go into your bloodstream, causing inflammation in your body. If it hits the right organs at the right time, yes, in the long run it can kill you. This is why regular dental cleanings, daily flossing and brushing is important.

Actually, poor oral hygiene can cause serious infections, even to fatal heart infections (carditis, myocarditis, pericarditis, etc.). This is because the inflammation and infection makes it more likely that the bacteria can go into the bloodstream and cause a systemic infection through the blood (septicemia).

Nah, it gives you stinky *** breath. Gingivitis is an infection of the gum tissue, if it spreads which is very unlikely then it could harm you, but with antibiotics & some dental treatment it can be prevented from spreading.

Untreated gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, a much more serious form of gum disease. Periodontitis can cause tooth loss and may even increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. What's more, women with periodontitis are far more likely to give birth to premature babies than women with healthy gums are.
