rustycar98,
The Bible is a book that has 66 so called 'books' in it by 40 different authors.

Most Bibles have two distinct parts; The Old Testament and the New Testament.
(There are exception due to the Apocrypha appearing in the Roman Catholic Bible these days, and in the King James Bible before certain denominations were responsible for taking it out.)

The Old Testament was about God setting up His plan to bring salvation to the race of man. The main thing was to expose the way God thinks and reacts to sin, man, and what He is planning to do in the future.

The New Testament is about the actuation of God's plan for the salvation of man, and the revelation of faith being the key to connecting with God. The New Testament is also about the occurances of those that spread the word of God.

The Bible is one or two collections of writings regarded by Jews and Christians as divinely influenced. The Jewish Bible includes fables describing how the world came to be as it is, moral lessons in the form of historical narratives, poetry praising the attributes of God, proverbs explaining the nature of wisdom, recorded prophecies describing the consequences of national faithfulness to or abandonment of God, and a few books (Ruth, Job, Jonah, Ecclesiastes) questioning the assertions of the others. Jews regard the Bible as having three sections, in declining order of inspiration: Torah ("Law), Prophets, and Writings.

Christians accept the Jewish books but put them in different order. They also interpret many passages as prophecying or prefiguring Jesus, the founder of the Christian faith, who is regarded as divine. Additional books in the Christian Bible include several versions of the life and ministry of Jesus, a history of the early days of the Christian church, several exhortatory letters, most of which were written by a Christian preacher named Paul to Christian communities, and a symbolic work purporting to describe the end of the world and the judgment of God.

Some Christians also accept a few other books that were removed from the Jewish Bible when it was finalized. These works, including folk tales, pious additions to other books and a history of the Maccabbean War, are called the "Apocrypha" ("hidden") or "Deutero-cannonical" ("Second Cannon") books. Jews rejected the books as being written too late to be considered. Protestant Christians objected to several new theological premises in the books.

Hey, its probably best that you go to the source.

Most Bibles have a section at the very front that explains the what the Bible is, how it came to be, why it is trustworthy, and so on. That would probably help you the most.

While you are at it, it wouldn't hurt to read the contents as well.

An historical compilation of the creation of mankind; the formation of the Nation of Israel; the introduction of Jesus, the prophecied Messiah; the formation of the Christian belief system; the spread of that belief system; a possible indication of future events.

That's about as plain as it can be made, I think.
