i just got an SUV i paid roughly 12 grand for. the title came in the mail the other day and had the selling price with the tax at almost 700 bucks. So that means that when i go to get my plates I have to pay that 700 bucks then and there right? well what if i was transferring plates from my old car to my new, would that make any difference at all?

i did get it from a dealer, so that means that the tax is split into my monthy payment?

Ya your tax is paid before you get the title, that means it was part of your cost. You paid O.T.D and are paying the tag yourself. The tag office is not going to slam you like that... LOL..

If you got the tilte already in your name, then you already paid the 700 bucks(they were included in the total cost along with taxes)As far as transferring plates, i don't think that is possible. Atleast not in the state of Texas

unless you bought the car from a dealer, you did not already pay the taxes... it makes no difference if you get new tags or if you transfer plates... the motor vehicle agency is basically acting as an agent of the state to collect your sales tax... tax and title are two completely separate things

Even when you transfer plates, you still have to pay the taxes on the new car.
