Infection for months? Pain, redness? You need a doc and antibiotics. Infections can spread throughout your entire bloodstream and cause sepsis and even death eventually. A visit to the doc or your local community clinic for antibiotics would be less of a hassle and have good results. Finish all your medications and report any side effects if you have them.

The way i deal with infected finger nails is by using a sterlized needle or pin and pushing it into the infection until you get a little stinging pain which signals the infection is broken then carefully pump out the infection (real yellowish pus) until you get clear liquid then soak it and let the infected site heal

For months? Go to the doctor. You are lucky the infection has not spread to other nails or gotten worse. Go to the doctor before you loose your thumb, seriously!

Then go to a doctor. If anything has been for months it is not a minor thing go before it gets out of control.

if you've soaked it in saltwater, and put antibiotic cream on it and all that hasn't helped, go see a doctor.
