According to the information below, you (from the Philippines) do not need visa if you are traveling to Thailand for vacation as a tourist for 30 days.
However, you need a valid passport and proof of having a return ticket to the Philippines.
Have fun and good luck.

I believe Totsakan is correct, you don't need a visa but, you will need your passport and a return airline ticket.

Free maps, there were some distributed in the kiosks for the Japanese traveler at Don Muang Airport but, I have not seen them for a while. They may have some again in those traveler kiosks in the baggage area. If not, go to a King Power store and ask if they have any. They used to distribute them for free. Or when you arrive at your hotel, ask the concierge for a map of bangkok and make sure it has the MRT Subway and BTS sky train routes.

It sounds like you are traveling alone Marie, it is not that safe for a woman in general. Make sure your family knows your itinerary and check in with them regularly. A filipina in Thailand could be dangerous, stay in public areas and know where the tourist police are. If you have a cell phone that is GSM get a sim card and make sure you have the police phone number and your hotel's number. If you travel by taxi ask the concierge for a map card that some hotels have. It's easier to show the taxi driver the card than to explain where your hotel is.

Good luck

Hi, free map of downtown Bangkok is readily available from the airport. However, as some places are just outside that typical map coverage, you may want to try and get one that covers more area when you arrive. This can be bought from any bookshop or petrol station that you pass by. There is even some in English, though you may find more Thai words than English in them!

As for visa, you have 30-day free entry under ASEAN agreement. That is it. Just have a passport with at least 6 months validity, as is usual for most countries.

Have a good time.

It varies by the time of day. Some times there are several 747's arriving simultaneously, and some times it's quiet. Generally I find it takes about 20-30 minutes to get through immigration, by which time the luggage is appearing on the carousel. The fact that you have someone waiting for you has no bearing on the issue whatsoever! In fact that will most likely delay you further, because once through customs you enter the land of chaos, which has been artificially created by the AOT to convince tourists that they're really better off paying their exhorbitant limousine charges.

There is no free map of the bangkok city in the airport. But, you can get one from the ticket office/information counter of any BTS (the sky train) stations.
