This is gross but many a morning I feel like something is in my throat I have to cough profusely to get it out, then when I do its a tiny little clump of firm matter and it SMELLS pretty bad. I think it could be from food trapped in my mouth. Its not phlemy.I brush everynite to prevent it but it still happens. Im embarrased anyone know what causes this or have ithappen to them?

I have the same problem. I was researching it one day and came up with tonsil stones. I started noticing them when i was around 22. I pick them out, and yes they do have a odor to them. I get them every once in a while. I bet it was hard to cough it up. I listed a site as my source that really explains more on it.

I have this. Its called Chronic Cryptic Tonsilitis (or so I read). Basically like bacteria gathering in 'crypts' in your tonsils. Many times it happens after a sore throat. I personally am not able to see the little white balls in my tonsils, but I do cough them up. The best thing to do is to see a doctor. Most people have to get their tonsils taken out because of this.

Go see your doc. if it smells it could still be mucus. It could be an infection, do you smoke anything at all or are you around smoke? Just go see your doc... they should take a long Qtip and rub your throat and they will call you and tell you what it is or prescribe a antibiotic. But I'm sure its Flem in the mean time gurgle with salt water be for and after waking that could help break it up!

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

Cure Tonsil Stones Permanently?

If it is whitish and pasty when smashed with your fingers, I have had those, and I remember someone telling me that it is parts of your tonsils flaking off. If you have frequent sore throats or trouble breathing at night or with snoring, etc. You might want to see a doctor, specifically an otolaryngologist (ear/nose/throat) doctor might be best. I don't think the clumps are any problem in and of themselves, but I'm not a doctor so you might want to call one. There are a lot of offices that have a nurse line you can call for simple questions like this one. Good luck.

If its less than a teaspoon of blood, then you are ok. I just got over a nasty cold, and its a sign that you are getting better, don't know how or why but...if you are not sick or cough up more than a teaspoon, call the doctor.

Phlegm that is very dry down in your throat is not what we traditionally think of as phlegmy. I had bronchitis one time and was coughing up little hard clumps in the morning.Uh, I didn't smell it so I don't know about that. It was so GROSS, it made me dry heave. In fact, I could dry heave right now just thinking about it. Gotta go.

My doctor informed me that these are particles from tonsil secretions. You can minimize the particles by taking some time to gargle with warm salt water before sleeping.

It's puss that forms in your tonsils. You can remove them with a Q-tip but it will only come back. It isn't serious and you aren't sick but the only way to get rid of this problem is to get your tonsils removed.
