According to scripture..Matt. 10:26 "......but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell". Yet, countless times I have read here in this forum, that sinners will burn in hell forever and ever. Please explain the contradiction between God's word, and man's tradition. [ destroy: greek; apollumi, to destroy fully; to perish]. Thank You

I am so glad that there are people out here really reading the bible and dissecting it also. so many churches today use hell as a place of everlasting torment, but if you read all the verses in the bible like this one you will find that Sheol and hades and hell mean the grave. To go one step further you will here men say that the devil will be our tormentor in hell also but in the book of revelation it clearly says that the devil, that old serpent will be thrown into the lake of fire along with the wicked and be no more

Maybe it is just that - a difference between mans tradition and the word.

It is something man cannot fully understand and hence the dictionary may not be able to fully capture the meaning. The bible describes hell as the second death. It is an eternal death. An existence of death, suffering and separation from God.

If I heard someone say that a hurricane caused destruction I would not envisage that everything dissapeared but rather things were completely ruined. I think it is splitting straws really.

It's easy to understand when u know the difference between hell and gehenna. Hell is mankinds' grave and gehenna was based on the valley of Hinnom, where garbage and the bodies of dead criminals were burned. Many christians have also confused hell with the Lake of Fire at REvalation 20 ; 13 and 14 where it plainly states that hell gives up the dead in it along with Death and they are both thrown in the Lake of Fire. This Lake is called the second death so there is no return or resurection possible from it. So this second death is total destruction At John chapter 11, Jesus likened Lazarus' death to sleep but shortly brought him back from the dead. On the other hadn at Genesis chapter 3 , God told Adam that he was to return to the dust from which he was made. In other words, he would no longer exist.

That's actually our bad as christians, because we are not finishing the story of who is saved from Hell and who is not.

"Sinnses go to Hell" Is one of the most falce statements heard on Yahoo Answers. After all, EVERYONE IS A SINNER! It even says that over and over again in the bible, if you refer to Romans. True that the penalty for sin is death (Also mentioned in Romans)

But Christinas are not Christinas by doing good things like following the 10 commandments. No one can excape their sin through "good things" So we repent our sins to God, asking for forgiveness. That's the only difference between saved christinas and those who have not yet repented their sins. God released us of our sins, but someone still has to die. This is where Jesus came in, on the cross and rose agaig. 'nough said.

There is no contradiction.

The "Him", or "One," in Matthew 10:26 IS God. Jesus was telling the disciples not to fear their persecutors, but to fear God, (and that their persecutors should fear God) as He is able to destroy both soul & body in Hell. Other references to Hell include the burning and separation from God.

The difference is the "fear of man" vs. "fear of God"

Man does not have the power to cast into hell, only God has that power.
Psalms tell us that "the fear of the Lord is to hate evil", and "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

Sinners using wisdom will accept Jesus' salvation to avoid the eternal fire of hell.

The verse is saying to fear God because He has the authority to see your soul burn in hell.

Think it is talking about people leading you to sin and your soul will continually be destroyed in hell as the worm never dies.

The Bible is full of contradictions, riddles, and bull. Think for yourself. We are ALL sinners, it's human nature, we are not all damned to hell.

That verse is saying not to fear man and do his will but fear God and do his will... not sure of your question though and how it relates to that verse.
