My ex-husband and new boyfriend both open car door for me...for a long time, I thought it had been this way...until I saw some guys didn't open the door for their women, I realized that I was very lucky to find someone who did...It had been time to time when I was with some girlfriends, of course, they wouldn't open the door for me, left me standing there waiting for the door open automatically, hehehe...

To some men, they are just some habits they do it no matter what.

I think as long as its their gf men open the door but after marriaage I think it gets a bit annoying I mean imagine if after 50 years of marrriage youre waiting for 5 mins because hes still walking around the car with his arthiritis.
BTW what happens to all the equaliy for both sexes when it comes to this sort of chivalry

I do. Opening a car door or making way respectfully to women is good etiquette. There are many men who do it and it is a good thing to do. This etiquette is not just for the spouse or girlfriend but for all women, we come across in our professional and social life.

If I'm the driver I open car door for them. I did that for a woman I was with, she was driving and she stopped me, she was like "What are you doing?" I'm not sure to this day what happened, but I never saw her again.

I do.
I Iike to show respect ot my wife or girl friend than by opening the door for them. It shows you care, and respect them. But some women take it a different meaning as seeing them as helpless and that is not true at least for me. but was true to soem extent a long time ago.
This custom started out hundred of years ago when coaches were used and women wor esuch long and fuffy dresses that it was nearly imnpossible for them to enter a coach(and later even a train ) with out help,
This custom continued into the automobile use, and than home.

Not Singapore men. Those I have encountered expect you to open your own car door

It is a sweet gesture and good to have but tough to find in Asia

My friend and I aren't dating, but he always opens the door for me, not matter where we are. I can't say that I expect it, but I know he is going to do it, so I tend to stand back and wait. He is a sweetheart and I love it. I have to say that I wouldn't be thrilled if my boyfriend didn't do it and my friend did, that would be kinda funny I think :)
