I'm not a heavy drink...i hardly drink at all. (We're talking alcohol people). Well, i drink every now and then. This year in 2006 i have drank probably only about 4 times on different nights, with months in between. This past time i drank, it was at a friends party with close friends as we had a good time. This time however, was the first time I threw up. I could always hold my own but this night made me blow chunks. Most likely it was because i combined red wine, champange, vodka, tequila and a beer throughout the duration of the entire night. Well, after feel that way and waking up with a hangover (my first hangover ever)...i felt like i never wanted to drink again. I still feel that way. Anyways...

I was told that somehow your immune system strenghthens after this? Is there any truth to this? Somehow the person that told me made it seem that you can only get better after you drink alcohol.

Your thoughts please.

No it is not true that drinking heavily improves your immune system.
All the alcohol goes to your stomach. Then the digestive juices try to break it down. Your body is programmed to use whatever nutrients are in everything you put down the tube as a survival mechanism from way back in the days when there was absolutely nothing to eat or drink.
Alcohol can be made from different sources, berries, grapes, plants, malt, and various juices. Your liver will milk it for whatever good it can get in the same manner that it will try to break down the poisonous alcohol. it came with.
Red wine still has some antioxidants present while the alcohol content is less than 5 to 7 %.
Those antioxidants are good for you.

No, drinking heavily every now and then is not good for your immune system. Their reasoning is probably along the lines of drinking heavily on occasion would make your immune system prepare for another heavy drinking session, but it doesn't work like that. It might for a short amount of time, but very short and then your immune system would return to normal. The only thing alcohol can help similar to that is a beer/glass of wine a day can help with blood pressure and a couple other things.

Drinking that much is not good, period. You can boost your immune system in a healthier way by having your vegetables and fruits, and drinking your tea :-]. The only person who would say alcohol strengthens the immune system is someone who adores drinking on a wonderful weekly basis. Or a drunk person, haha. So many other things boost your immune system. The most unlikely activites, such as going to a museum, can boost it because of the feelings that you get from learning something. In other words, don't count on alcohol, or the like, to do anything for you other than warp your mind for a bit and perhaps do unseen damage.

They say a glass of red wine a day, keeps your heart pumping.

I think 1 or 2 cans of beer a day kinda keep the common sickness away .. but watch that belly.

Your mix above does not make your immune stronger, but your tolerance to alcohol would be but you may risk a stomach ulcer if your stomach is not strong in the 1st place.

Cheers

Alcohol is not an answer to anything and does nothing for your immune system. Eat a diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, drink water, and get some evercise on a regular basis. You will be healthier!

Heavy drinking at anytime is NOT good for your body. Moderate consumption is good for your body because of the vitamins etc, but heavy drinking will only lead to liver, kidney and stomach problems not to mention, mental problems and urinary infections. Actually when I put it that way it's a wonder anyone drinks at all, so forget about it and just have a good time, Bottoms up.

I had a similar experience as a college freshman, which cured me of any notions I had to become a power drinker. If you want to boost your immune system, eat nutritional food, exercise and drink moderately (less is better), get your flu shots and other recommended immunizations and boosters. Getting sloppy drunk does not strengthen your immune syste.

The only thing good I ever heard about alcohol is that having a beer a day will thin your blood. I don't know if it's true or not. But, it's probably cheaper than blood thinning medications!!

consumption of five or more drinks on a single occasion, which is approximately the amount of alcohol needed to raise the average sized person's blood alcohol concentration to about 0.10%. In other words, it is the amount of alcohol consumption that would raise the presumption of intoxication.
the answer is no good
