I think that particular garnish on top of the carbonara is cilantro( parsley family). It takes getting used to. because it has a stronger odor and taste. It is called the Chinese parsley and other people cant get enough of it. They just love it !

CAN GARNISH CAN BE EATEN?
Yes, In cooking school you are taught that all garnish should be edible even if the main reason for them being there is to provide contrast, art and beauty to take the dining experience to the max !
It goes back to the days of emperors and rulers of the dynasties. Dining at their tables was supposed to be an extraordinary exerience
Ok, here comes the YES- BUT.
There are cultures in the world that so not agree that they should be eaten.When in North America and Europe, please eat them, the chefs generally expect you to.
If you travel elsewhere, look around before you make a faux pas. Alas, your hosts might think badly of you for eating the lettuce garnish. In foreign countries, therefore, do as the others do and leave the flower radish alone if no one else is eating them!

While usually edible, garnish is best left for looks alone. I only suggest sometimes chewing a small piece of parsley after a garlicy meal to help your breath or sucking a lemon from a tequilla glass. Otherwise, especially with drinks, these garnishes are laying around and just used for looks. Sometimes they aren't edible at all!

Osso Buco is commonly served with a twig of rosemary, and that i exploit that to added style my meal. Saganaki is garnished with lemon wedges, and that clean squeezed lemon juice on the kasseri cheese is the appropriate. Italian eco-friendly bean salad is garnished with clean basil and that's quite the appropriate. Garnish is for seems besides as for enhancement of flavor.

Garnishes are almost always edible, but whether or not you eat them is up to you. Personally I like parsley and always eat it - and I use lemon if it is provided. The only non-edible garnish I have seen is raw kale - a cabbage-like vegetable that needs to be cooked. If it tastes disgusting to you, don't eat it!

garnishes made of flowers, plastic, discarded milli vanilli cd's and other inedible substances should be avoided.

It is perfectly acceptable to eat any edible garnish. If you find you do not like the taste, simply put it to the side and do not eat it.

Generally speaking you should be able to eat the garnish. I however only eat garnishes that I can identify.

It's your choice. My son likes parsley, and I eat the orange slices. I've had kale on the plate, and it was really bitter.

Its up to you. If its parsley, I eat it because thats a great breath feshener after a meal. If its something you dont like, then dont feel obligated to eat it.

You could, maybe what you ate was parsley? I think that's good to eat that after your meal to help ease the bad breath your may meal have caused.
