I'm horrible at getting up. I set my alarm far from my bed. It pisses me off something awful in the morning, but otherwise I just shut my alarm off in my sleep.

I am a very nocturnal person.
However, I get up every morning (sometimes on 3-4 hours of sleep). I trained myself to get up, and it was a difficult process that took a few years.
The first step is realizing that the rest of the world runs on a day schedule and since they are the majority I have to adapt to their schedule or I will not get anything done.
The second step is understanding the importance of getting up in the morning...Nobody likes a person who is late! (Teachers, friends and definately not employers!) If I want my life to work out well, I have to get up.
The third step is finding out how you wake up best. Do you sleep until the last possible second and then rush, or are you better at waking up slowly over an hour or so?
If you are sleep then rush person, try planning your rush the night before. Take your shower before bed, set out your clothes, books, bags (whatever) so that you can jump up and go.
If you are a slow-wake-up person set your alarm for earlier than necessary and use the extra time to hit the snooze button, relax with a cup of coffee and get ready slowly. If you take the time to wake up properly, the morning is not so bad.
About alarms (VERY important). Get an alarm clock with a snooze button and use it instead of the "off" button. Never turn off your alarm until you are actually out of bed! Choose one that makes a sound that actually wakes you up...Do you prefer loud noises, or bells ringing, or beeping sounds? Maybe you have a favourite radio station that plays music that you can wake up to? You can also get cd players that have alarms built in, then you can choose a favourite cd.
Just figure out your routine and stick with it.
Hope some of this helps.

I am terrible in the mornings. Some people have argued about my technique but it works for me...I set my alarm to go off 2 before I have to get up, I wake up and set it for 1 more hour, then I wake up and snooze for 10 mins...then 10 more. It works for me...If I just jump out of bed my day is shot from there....

You need to look at your lifestyle, do you smoke? are you healthy and are you eating the right foods?
I use to be a very heavy sleeper.. so heavy that i was late to work almost everyday, i would have to set one alarm 5 times, and set another one across the other side of the room so i would have to get up to turn it off. I would still fall back asleep. I then stopped smoking, starting exercising and eating healthier.... Now, i wake up easy!
If the above doesnt work - a tip is to go to sleep with your blinds opened, this way - when you wake up to turn your alarm of, the sun will be shining in and it'll be harder to snooze.

turn your alarm all the way up, thats the standard for alarms. they shouldn't even have a volume control and make it far enough to where you have to get up of the bed! if it isn't you'll do the "hit button fall bounce sleep" and go to bed earlier with the tv off!!!once you get into the habit you will start waking up early all the time

Well I have to use three alarms that go off ; I set one for 6:30, the other for 6:35, then the other for 6:40, the first one is right by my bed, the second one is next to that one and the third one is on my dresser. The third one is really loud so it kinda makes me want to get up befor it goes off.

I set my alarm 10 minutes before I'm suppose to wake up. Leave it across the room. Since I'll be staring at it for 10 minutes hoping that would shut up. Then I'd be so sick of the noise I'd have to walk across the room just to turn it off. So when I'm up there would be no point in getting back in.

Used to be I would have the alarm (radio mode) set really loud, and far enough away that I would have to get up out of bed. I'm more second shift mode now, so don't worry about it as much....

First of all try to get enough sleep. Second keep the alarm away from arms distance. Place it where you have to get out of bed to turn it off and then go have a cup of coffee and watch the news while you have your coffee, then get up and get ready for where ever you need to go.

When I was single - I would turn the tv up really really loud on a timer plus set an alarm across the room so I'd have to get up. Then, I'd order a wake up call. Sometimes I'd still sleep in. I'd sleep through it all.
Now, my husband wakes me or the kids. It takes them a few tries. They think I'm lazy. I think I have a sleep disorder.
