Don't forget dogs that can detect cancer, and alert their owners to impending siezures. There are Hearing dogs for the deaf and other service dogs of all breeds. Termite detection, arson detection and explosives detection are a few more uses for our talented and willing canines. Even just as companions, all dogs can be considered "extraordinary" in terms of the relationship between man and dog. No other animal serves mankind in such a way and all for a tidbit, a pat on the head or a word of praise.

Don't forget that Labs were originally bred as retrievers. They first worked in Newfoundland helping to retrieve fish that came off the trawl. When Englishmen found out what good retrievers they were they started to use and train them as the gun dogs we know and love today.
If you want to see something awesome, go to http://www.war-dogs.com it's a great site about how GSD's worked in Vietnam. It also tells how our government murdered them when they were done with them. It's so sad what they did to these faithful babies. Very recently a law was passed that says these wonderful animals have to rehabilitated whenever possible and released back into civilian life. We can only hope this law is enforced and followed.....
