I didn't mean anything to do with LOVE, just happiness in general.

It is a fleeting feeling and truly attainable. Depending on if you have a mental disorder or not, happiness is a measure of an emotion that is felt throughout your body and mind. With me, happiness is felt briefly, but it is appreciated. With some of my friends, happiness can last days or weeks. I've seen one friend truly happy for an entire month. If you're meaning with relationships it is attainable, because I've seen some truly happy couples. Just keep your chin up.

Happiness is not really a feeling. It is an emotional state we can reach or, easier, get out of. Theoretically, you can be happy if you form appropriate emotional responses to the unpleasant situations in your life. If you don't allow them to bog you down, you might be happy. But practically, it is harder said than done. It is a constant struggle to get back to this state. It is attainable, but nothing in life is easy, and this requires more self work than most. It depands pretty much on your personal will and motivation. The more motivated you are to work for it, the easier it would be to attain it. But most of us, I suspect, aren't truly happy, so that tells me how much hard work it takes the few determined individuals.

I believe happiness displays itself in different ways such as contentment, and satisfaction. Happy doesnt mean you have to be a smiley face 24/7..its unnatural to be that way...................ps edit....I came back to state after reading some recent posts that falling in love and relationships dont usually define happiness, happiness is attained when a person is content(not overjoyed) but content. Knowing who you are and accepting what you have accomplished no matter how small or big , realizing that you cant have everything and appreciating the little things in life is contentment. For example most of us might have crappy or boring jobs that dont pay great..but we are working, some of us dont have luxury apartments in designer or historic neighborhoods , but man we have our own place that we pay for with our pay checks unassisted and we think it is a cute place. Willing to accept who we are and what we have accomplished as being good enough is happiness.

Truly attainable ... if your true to yourself and others. Love is not to be played with it makes you bitter when you get old and love is what keeps you going when you have nothing to look forward to. Its a feeling attained by the foolish, well known to the wise, can bring a grown man to his knees, make a baby cry for someone to hold him/her, makes flowers bloom to early and die from a broken heart! There is no way to know for sure if someone loves you. Lust and love are like twins not sure which is which!

Yes happiness is fleeting and transitory. It comes and it goes. Sometimes you are happy and sometimes you are sad, such is life and both are good.

Now joy on the other hand, the kind that comes from right living, can be sustained indefinitely, even when your sad.

A guy went to a sage once and asked, "how do I become happy?".... and the sage replies, "if you want to be happy, BE HAPPY!"

it's just a matter of allowing it and uncovering it...
