Allah is the name of the Only True God and the Quran tells you 114 times, "In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful".
Allah does not translate God. God or deity in Arabic is "ilah".
Muslims testify, " There is no god but Allah and Muhammad was His messenger".
Translations of the Quran that use God for Allah are false and misleading and shows the ignorance and lack of understanding of the Message of the Quran by the Shgeikhs and Imams.
These Muslims used to translate "There is no God but God" which, one must admit, is ridiculous and senseless.
Most of these translations also translate Yahuudi to Jews when this is as false and Yahuudi refers to Children of Israel who followed Musa ( who they also call Moses after the Biblical names).
Also in the false translations you will find Nazaaraa being translated "Christians" falsely while Nazaaraa can only be honestly translated "Helpers".
For a fact, there are no Christians and no Jews in the Quran!
You will not find an honest translation of the Quran on any website or in any bookstore because the Muslims are ashamed of their errors of the past, which is the main cause of their predicament today, but they refuse to admit and expose their IGNORANCE and disbelief.
Alhamdulillah for your question and may Allah reward you.

You are saying that the word "Ilah" means "God" in Arabic. And that Allah is a slight derivative of that word? Is that correct? So Allah is not a name for God, Allah means God. It is an alternate spelling of Ilah. That sounds fine to me if that is the truth. It is not really a huge problem in religious matters, just a matter of symantics. You would think that anyway, but I suppose if people want to condemn others and focus on negativity and become violent and blow up mosques, I guess ultimately, any excuse will do.

Allah is an Arabic name for God. but it is just not a name, it also has a meaning to it. Allah means -- SUPREME BEING or THE GREATEST -- and i am sure that every religion will say that God is SUPREME BEING and is the GREATEST.
the concept of God is very clearly defined in Islam as One who was All-Etrenal and who never dies.
Al-Ikhlas | 4 verses | Absoluteness سورة الإخلاص
Sura #112 | Makkah
1 Say: He is Allah, the One!
2 Allah, the eternally Besought of all!
3 He begetteth not nor was begotten.
4 And there is none comparable unto Him.
hope i helped.
have anice day and peace.

"Allah" is the same word used by Christian Arabs and Jewish Arabs in their Bible, centuries before Islam came.
Allah does mean "God" in arabic. It's just a translation but Allah is more pure and more powerful word that "god". Back then, they never used the word "God" but instead "Elah" meaning "the God".
The reason why I personally don't like using the word "God" is because when you spell it backwards, what do you get? See, Allah is more pure and still means the same thing.

Word for god or diety in Arabic is ilaah. It is used for all things people worship, whether right or wrong. But the word Allah is used by Arabs to refer to the unseen God alone, who is considered to be the creator of whole universe. All the groups during the time of prophet believed in Allah. Polytheist used to worship other gods besides Allah in the hope they will intercede for them with Allah.
"And they serve beside Allah what can neither harm them nor profit them, and they say: These are our intercessors with Allah. Say: Do you (presume to) inform Allah of what He knows not in the heavens and the earth? Glory be to Him, and supremely exalted is He above what they set up (with Him). " Quran 10: 18.

Allah is Islam's proper name for god.
It's not made by Muslims to address god.
The word god can be male, or female (goddess) or plural (gods).
The word Allah only comes in one form.
Allah has 99 names and adjectives that describe his power. (like: the all knowing , Al Aleem العليم)

As I understand it, "Allah" literally means "God". (In Hebrew, the corresponding word is "El", plural "Elohoim"). One could properly translate: "There is no god but God..."
