They will be swollen for a while, but the swelling will go down, and you'll be left with just a tiny "pinprick mark" from where the IV is. Depending on whether it's really an IV or actually a central line (if you know), it may be a little bigger than a pinprick, and may hurt. But it will go away after a few weeks.

You may want to try some anti-itch medication, and some tylenol for the pain :)

You might have caught some kind of infection, the removal of an IV should be done as cleanly as possible and the skin should be protected for a little while as the stick site heals and closes down. If your hand is swollen after a few days, you should see a doc. He will probably prescribe some antibiotics. When things go normally, the stick site closes itself, the vein's tiny hole closes too and nothing should be visible but maybe a small bruise for a couple of days.

You may have gotten phlebitis which is an inflamation of a vein caused by an IV. This will clear up on its own in a few days. If it doesn't see the doctor. This doesn't mean that the person that put the IV in wrong it is just your veins reaction to something artificial being put in it. I get phlebitis everytime I get an IV.

You probably had some kind of reaction to material used for the IV or just damaged it in your sleep. Best sugestion go to a pharmacy and buy Certitizine Hydrochloride 10mg tablets, you can buy them off the shelf. Used for anti itching - reduces swelling & gets rid of rashes etc.. if doesnt work see ya doctor. it doesnt sound serious, nothing should normally happen to your veins.

the extra youthful you are the fewer in all probability you will have problems, and the fewer time it takes to heal so, much less soreness. As for for the period of the technique, whilst they inject you with the interior sight antistatic you would be stable to bypass no soreness. in basic terms some pulling sensation and doubtless somewhat pushing if he cuts then somewhat rigidity. whilst that wears off you will have drugs to bland the soreness you will experience and in all probability by using day after right this moment you would be back to inflicting difficulty and enjoying throughout lower back. effortless quickly and at under 14 very rapid to recuperate. Now in case you became over 30 i could say your in for a heck of a time. yet as i pronounced young ones heal and recuperate so quickly you will somewhat comprehend it occurred.

What did they put in your iv. sounds like an allergic reaction. the iv needle is so small that when they pull it out they will hold down and it will clot. if no pressure is put on then you will get back up so to speak and a bubble so to speak. if this happens , just apply pressure. sounds to me like an allergic reaction. try contacting a triage nurse or going in. i have had many iv's in my time cuz i have kidney problems and have never had this only when i had an allergy. Good luck and i wish you well.

ooohh... ahehehe... swollen hands aren't supposed to happen... UNLESS the IV catheter/needle got dislodged from the vein making the IV fluid get lodged into the intracellular spaces leading to edema/swelling of hands.... if left untreated it can lead to sepsis...

apply warm compress to your hands until complaints disappear...

If it requires further treatment, you'll recieve it. Yours is not an uncommon experience, and rarely does it indicate a serious problem. It'll get better in a few days.
