If the shelf life of a merlot is 8-10 years, then why do some people save wine for sometimes 30-50 years? Wont it go bad?

wine doesnt' go bad it just ferments more. some expensive high end wines are a hundred or more years old. i've heard of a batch of 1200 year old wine under the ocean that was still good.

Most wines of that you bye today will not change even if they are left unopened for years. Wines today are meant to be consumed in 1 year. Older wines age in bottles over time. Things have to be just right for wine to age properly. Red age better than white.

i didn't think wine had a shelf life either. I thought the older the better.

I have heard in the case of wine, the older the better.
