I haven't had any problems with VLC, so it's hard to help you without actually being there.

First of all, try downloading VLC from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ for YOUR OS. If you select the wrong OS, it will not run (nor install). This should world.

Second, if you're still having problems... it might be a registry issue. Since it's dangerous to manually work on your computer's registry, you should use a program that will fix the registry for you. CCleaner ( available at http://www.ccleaner.com ) has a registry checker that will detect & fix (more specifically, delete) registry problems. After you clean up your registry, try install VLC again.

Finally, as a last-ditch effort... you can try using VLC Portable on your laptop. VLC Portable is designed to run off a USB thumbdrive or other removable devices, it can be used like a regular program. You can pick up VLC Portable at http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable

The main reason why I say that VLC Portable is a last-ditch effort because it doesn't install any shortcuts or uninstall stuff as it's designed to run on a USB thumbdrive.

Yeah, do no longer blame VLC for in spite of you have. i'm able to think of of a pair circumstances that ought to describe this, like downloading it off some third-occasion shady internet site that linked something else. in case you had compiled it on your man or woman you will not be in this mess.
