It really depends on what the situation is and why it is that way.
Out of sight out of mind would possibly apply to a woman who's husband recently went to prison after abusing her and her children.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder would possibly apply to a wife who has a husband in Iraq.
I guess both could be applied to both situations. I would have to say "Out of sight, out of mind" as my final answer!
Two totally different situations and circumstances. Two totally different phrases.

definatley adscence makes the heart grow fonder i dont get to see my boyfriend hardly ever now that i live with my father and that i work on the weekends and i miss him but it just makes it better for the next time that i get to see him.
