Mostly because people are hard of hearing, have thick skulls, can't see beyone their own nose, and like real estate a lot more than their neighbor.

Well, you'll spend 2 hrs in a movie, 2 or more hrs at a
ballgame, 1 hr in a lecture or lesson;2 hrs at least at a
rock concert; so why should religion be any different?
Usually, church lasts one hour and only 25 or 30 min.
of that is the preaching. We worship also by singing
praises, taking communion, and baptizing the lost.
This is so much more important than rock concerts
that maybe preachers should preach longer even.

Because not only do you have to preach the "Word of God", but you then have to explain all the rationallizations for the contradictions and errors that are in the "Word of God".

Maybe 'the good news' is actually spiritual blackmail. Maybe spiritual blackmail comes from Gnostic Theist ideological traditions prominent in the global culture today in the form of exclusive divine revelations of spiritual knowledge. Maybe ideological authorities proclaim that these exculsive divine revelations of spiritual knowledge are true and were recorded as words in sacred scrolls written by messengers chosen by a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Maybe based upon their interpretations of these exclusive divine revelations of spiritual knowledge, ideological authorities proclaim to communities of faithful believers that the will of a good one in Heaven is that members submit to the will of ideological authorities who affirm an ability to know about the existence of the good one in Heaven and his will; and in so doing, surrender their authority to make up their own minds about self and world.
Having gained the authority from believers to make up their minds about self and world for them, maybe ideological authorities begin a life long process of indoctrination or as some call it 'brain washing' designed to make up the minds of believers with a model of self and world divided by a spiritual conflict between a good one in Heaven and an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Maybe threats of abominable infernal torment and promises of divine eternal bliss empower these Gnostic Theist ideological authorities to use this spiritual blackmail to extort gold in the form of tithes or offerings and to peddle their influence over the minds of communities of faithful believers to a mercenary plutocratic predatory few that prey upon the many of our global culture. Maybe it takes so long to preach the "Word of God" because it is so much more profitable when it takes a long time!

I'm not sure what you mean. Does your church service go too long or what? My Father is a preacher and I always accused him of being like Pharoah....he just wouldn't let the people go! LOL

I don't know...but church services do seem to go on forever. When I was a kid I thought it would never end so we could go play in the graveyard.

not everyone is as smart as us, so the preacher has to say the same thing over and over, in different way so that everyone understands.
