1. He will not yowl all thru the night.

2. He will not pee/mark on your furniture and every available ( most times inconvenient ) spots...Even your BED!

3. Yes, he will gain a bit of weight, so you have to help him out by adjusting his food intake

4. Character doesnt change much, only becomes less agressive and more snuggly

5. Most Vet advises that they stay home, but my boyfriend's cat still roams around and all with hardly any problems....

Note: he will be groggy for 1 -2 days after returning from the Vet due to the anaesthesia, but recovers very fast. Female cats take longer and need more care.

Neutering a male cat is a great decision. First of all a male cat is very territorial if not neutered. They mark their territory if not neutered, they compete with other males if not neutered. They have sex with many female cats and the animal shelters are already over populated with unwanted litters of kittens. During this mating process and during fights, cats bite and scratch each other. There is a disease called FIV which is a cats version of HIV and it will eventually turn into a cats version of AIDS. The are exposed to it during mating and fighting. There is no cure for it. Once they are neutered they do not have a desire to seek out a mate, which is where they run off to, so they end up staying pretty close to home. They don't have all the testosterone chemical racing through their body so they don't mark their territory nor do they try to become dominate. After they are neutered you should monitor the diet so they don't become over weight. They feel better and they are a lot easier to care for after they are neutered. It is simply healthier.

First of all, thank you for adopting a cat. I did volunteer work in a local SPCA and there are always so many cats looking for homes that it's just great to hear that someone has adopted one. Neutering a male cat stops him spraying and also is healthier for him as they sometimes get testicular cancer if they are not neutered. He's at a perfect age now to be neutered before he starts spraying and you'll have a nice healthy affectionate cat once it's done. Also, a word of advice that could save you from heartache in the future with a male cat - please feed him a food such as Science Diet that prevents him from getting urinary tract infection. It is more expensive than say Purina for example but it could save his life. If a male cat gets this disease it has to be treated within 24 hours in order to save him. (My daughter had a male cat die from this as she didn't realize anything was wrong until it was too late.)
All the best to you and your new friend!

In my opinion, you will do your male a great favor by neutering him. They tend to run off and not return for days and get into fights and get torn up fighting over a female cat. My cat Slap, had a more relaxed demeanor after he was neutered. It also will help in eliminating unwanted kittens being abandoned. Their character dos not change. They do stay home more but still like to investigate things at night. I never noted him becoming fatter, just more pleasant to be around.

I've got two cats, both of them neutered. One is big, the other is small. Neutering doesn't change their size. You really need to get your outdoor cat neutered, before he wanders off and doesn't come back. Un-neutered cats tend to live short, sad lives

Hello there
Well I know that if a cats gets fixed being too young he won't be very healthy (from a holistic point of view) because his penis won't grow to a normal size and he will have urinate infection, stones in his urine that kind of things. So if you would want to wait just a little longer it will save you a lot of money in medicine in the future. He will get fat after only if you feed him too much and don't allow him to exercise properly. His character hard to tell, it's different with every cat as it is with people. I have a male and a female cat both fixed and they still sort of Mate, Yes !!! And he also cry out sending warnings to other cat, you know, He is totally the alpha cat, he also is the boss of the dog, Yes !!!!
If I would have had the chance to choose when to fix my cat I would have waited until he was 1 year old. Don't believe what doctors say that it is better for the cat to be fixed son that it is best for his health and bla bla. Think of this , In the wild do cats get fixed, do they get six if they are not fixed, Who is going to fix them living in the wild. Your cat is going to be fine while he is not fixed yet just don't let him wander too far.

Tom cats spray - very strong smell, you won't be able to miss it.

If he has not developed that habit, neutering may help prevent that habit from developing. Not always

I have two Tom's neither spray indoors, but I have seen them spray outdoors if another Tom has invaded "their" space. They still "defend" the yard/their space.

Both are very friendly to people, ones gotten over weight, the other has remained about average for his frame/body size.
Both still "wander" a bit.
They purr really really loudly compared to the female cat's I've had.

Pauliviri has NO clue what they are talking about! Do not take their advice...please listen to the other knowledgable pet owners telling you to neuter your pet!! You can do it right away...he can get another cat pregant at the age of 5-6 months old..so he is ready to be neutered NOW. He will not get fat, and his character will not change...all myths!

He would do good being neutered. He will not spray your house or your furniture with his scent and he will not roam.
His personality will remain the same.
And some male cats will get fat and some won't after they are denutted.
Also, congrats on being adopted by the cat. You will not regret having him in your life.

Neutering him will calm him down and he will stay around home. Plus you won't have any unwanted kittens. My cat gained a lot of weight since he got fixed. Also, if you get him fixed you won't have to worry about him spraying.
