I would never ever lock my children in their room.If you have to lock a child in their room then it shows that the child is way out of control due to the parents failure and the parents is way out of control. It is also child neglect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We never lock our kids in their room but the oldest one is starting to lock himself in.
Seriously, you can send them to their room, but small kids don't understand that punishment. It freaks them out more than anything and I really don't think they learn anything from it until they are a little older.
I send my 4 yr old to the naughty corner. My 6 yr old, gets sent to his room to have some alone time when he starts getting a little crazy/active, but it is not a serious punishment because he happens to love being in his room.
Depends on the kid. You have to pick the punishment that fits their likes and dislikes. Most kids hate to be bored which is why the corner works well for us.

There is a difference in sending a child to their room and locking them in there. Having a child of my own, I have sent him to his room, but would never think of locking them in there. They need to be able to come out if there is trouble. I believe locking them in their room is a form of abuse.

I never have, but you can as a parent, then only if you are right there for safety reasons.
Mine get sent to their rooms. They know better now that to come out unless they have permission.

NEVER, that's mean, tell them to stay in their room for a period of time, not lock them in there.

No this constitutes unlawful imprisonment. It is also cruel and unusual punishment.
