i have a yorkie/pomeranian mix. he is the sweetest and smartest dog i've ever had. i don't know about hard to train, my baby pretty much learned to go to the door after a good month and a half to do his business (mind you i wasn't working at the time). he's about 7.5 lbs and loves to be spoiled. if you're a girl, then make sure the person who's raised the dog is a girl too. my baby loves my husband a lot, but i think it's because the owner who raised him was a man, and his wife wasn't around a lot. i think mixes are better... they're not inbred and i wouldn't hesitate to get another yorkie myself. :) good luck

I cannot think of any reason why you should not get a Yorkie. There are faithful companions and so much fun to be around. It is a pleasure to bathe them and walk them. They are very affectionate and seem to love people a lot as well as other dogs. They also are very protective of you. Some of finicky eaters but most pets are a little bit finicky about food anyway. I would recommend a miniature.

It's up to you-- all dogs require training and lots of time and patience, no matter what the breed. You also have to get the dog groomed regularly. all dogs require constant vet checkups as well-- do your research before getting any type of dog!
Also- check www.petfinder.com or breed rescue groups before buying a dog- don't contribute to the pet overpopulation problem when so many dogs are already dying!!
Breed rescue groups have dogs from puppies all the way to senior citizens. Also, if you rescue a dog, he'll be healthier (as all "rescued" dogs are already checked up by the vet, unlike pet store puppies) and well socialized, unlike pet stores. you'll also be saving 2 lives.. the one you adopt and another one that the rescue can save!
you also save A LOT of money when you rescue!

I had a miniature Yorkie, and we used to tell him he would grow up to be a Rottie one day, I think he believed us, he was brave and intelligent, a wonderful friend, loved to be babied, and you invent a game and he would play it. Handbag size, I could take him into shops if necessary, no one noticed. Ideal for Caravan. He loved his walks, but if it was wet or cold, we both stayed in and he got his exercise running around the house.
(Little poos, no problems to pick up from the garden)
When he died, he took a big piece of my heart with him, I shall get another one day! I can truly recommend them, sooo much fun! NOT even high maintenance, my little boy was always clipped shortish hair, and it suited him well, and me1 Did it myself! They are super little fellows.

I have a chorkie..half yorkie, half chihuahua. My puppy has inherited the hair of a yorkie. So if you get one, be prepared for serious grooming time on the fur. Find a good groomer and you won't regret it. They are high maintenance, but so, so sweet and loving. I've never heard anyone say they disliked the breed. Just know what you're getting into.

Yorkies are very cute dogs, need lots of love and attention, and make great companions. Those are some of the good points. Bad points, can be quite hyper, need lots of grroming.

Yorkies are among the best bars of chocolate ever made, thick and chunky. Buy one, heck buy two.
