Between 75 and 90 per cent of women develop stretch marks during pregnancy. The sustained stretching on the abdomen as a result of pregnancy usually means stretch marks will appear during the sixth or seventh month.

There are various methods that claim to remove them, including laser treatments, dermabrasion, and topical applications (e.g. cocoa butter)[1], but none guarantees it.

There is no assured method of preventing stretch marks, although many believe that using oils or creams in high-risk areas may help prevent them by giving the skin more flexibility. Many over the counter products are sold for such use.

The only reliable treatment for already-existing stretch marks is surgery. While several topical applications exist, they are only effective in fading the stretch marks; they do not cause stretch marks to completely disappear.

Stretchmarks Removal
As we pass through different stages of our lives, be it puberty, pregnancy or even on a holiday when we eat a little too much, and gain weight, we inadvertently develop stretch marks on some part of our body. Even body builders can have stretch marks, in cases when the growth of the muscle is very rapid. At first these marks are reddish purple in their appearance, but lighten to shades, which are almost of the skin color, which helps in their easy removal. So don’t be panicky if you spot your first stretch mark, they’ll fade with time.

There really isnt anything you can do. It's like trying to fix a stretched out plastic bag.

I have stretch marks all over. I tried some drug store brand scar gel and it made them less noticable, but they didnt go away. I think if you go to a doctor they might to be able to do something more.

I use L'oreal's Sublime lotion. It has subtle tanning ingredient to help camoflage the appearance. This is especially useful in the summer (think swimsuits). Jergens glow lines are 2nd choice. Try it! You'll see a difference. However, everyone is right . . . it's what mother nature intended!

The only thing I know of is laser resurfacing. Be prepared to pay a few hundred dollars and for some discomfort.

i've had two daughters and no luck. i've tried cocoa, shea and olive butter. seems that jergens ultra healing lotion helps to lighten and a little tanning doesn't hurt but they never go away. they have lightened with time and i try and think thats just the memory (battlescar :) ) of giving life...
