I can't get into the zone without enough sleep. Once I'm fully refreshed, say after eight hours of sublime sleep, I am fully awake and alert and can focus and concentrate on nearly anything. If you're drowsy or tired, take a short nap. You'd be amazed how, after only 30 minutes of sleep, you can function better. When I feel good, I can tackle anything and easily get into the zone.

What I do is head for the nearest Waffle House. Then I order a cup of their wonderful bottomless cups of coffee (which I pay for with a coffee card coupon), a short ice watter and an ashtray. Then I can light up a "Smokers Choice" light 100 little cigar, (1/3 the cost of cigarettes) and enjoy some interesting conversation with (in particular, the second shifters), their "associates". Then I tip at least $.50, which is a bit much for an $.85 coffee. Learned a long time ago, second shift is the best and I go for the entertainment, not the food. An hour or so there (several cups) and I can go face the world again. Of course, that is one advantage of being self employed.
