I finally decided after much thought and reaserch that a shih tzu is right for my family. Some dogs bond with many people and some choose only one person to get close to, I was wondering how the Shih Tzu is in this area. I just really want a personal opinion from people experienced with the breed.

Thank you very much,

my daughter had a shih tzu but it really seemed to be a 1 person dog, it got along well with the rest of the family but it mainly listened to her

Shih Tzus are affectionate and friendly. It does depend on the dog more than the breed, but I love Shih Tzus and I only saw one that wasn't really nice and friendly. My baby, Piggie is so friendly and nice! You'll love this breed. They don't shed, mine hardly barked a while ago (until I thought her to, Ilike dogs that bark once and a while), they're super cute, and overall my favorite breed. You should get one, in my opinion. But don't ever buy dogs in a pet store, get 'em from a breeder or a shelter. Shih Tzus rock!!!

I brought home my first shih tzu a little over a month ago. I too, did a considerable amount of research and decided that I wanted an older puppy. He is definately MY DOG when I am in the house. but if I am not there is he quite happy with my husband or two teenage boys even though they don't cater to him like "mama" does!

My daughter has a Shih Tzu and although it gets along well with her family of 6, (4 kids age 3-11) it really is her dog. They are wonderful pets and cute too.

We have a Shih-poo mix. We never have had a dog before - I am more of a Cat person - they take care of themselves. Finally we gave into my daughter who is now 18. My husbands family have always had poodles and he found them yippy and neurotic and more of a one person dog.

The one we have must have more of the shih-tz in him because he is so friendly and Loving and even though he is only 6 months old - so still a puppy - he does very little of the typical puppy antics and not from being trained not to (unfortunately my daughter hasn t done much of that). Yet he is very active and fun loving and Great with the whole family. He has a Shih-tz body and hair but his snout is longer like a poodles-no squashed noise and he is very smart.

Nice little family dogs. I've had 3 over the years. They like to cuddle, don't shed (but have to go to the groomer for a haircut every 2 months) don't tend to bark much, don't need much exercise. Mine all seemed to pick 1 favorite family member but enjoyed giving kisses to everyone. Excellent choice!!!!!!!!!!

i have a **** tzu and its the best pet i have ever owned. between me and my wife she may favor her cause she pampers the **** tzu more than i do but our dog plays with us both and is always happy to see me when i get home from work. another great thing about this dog is that she doesn't shed at all so i don't have to worry about having pet hair in the house or on my clothes. she is a very awesome pet and would not ever get another type of dog again. hope this helps!!

Ours is wonderful, it loves people and has so much patience with kids, never ever barks, and was clean with little training. Before that dog, I could not stand dogs and thought of animal lovers as slightly deranged people, it made me become human!
