i'm over seas supporting operation iraqi freedom and my wife is pregnate back in the states. shes due about a month and a half after i get back. she wants to know if its a boy or a girl for the baby shower.but i also want to find out together since its our first. i had an idea to get the ultra sound now but keep the results in a folder until i get home so we can find out together and just get a neutral color like yellow for now. shes still mixed up on the idea and wants to peek. should i go her way or my way?

I think yall should get it done but hold the results in an envelope until you get home. Just make sure the doctor writes a note in there stating what the bady is. Ultrasounds are hard to read sometimes. Good luck with everything.

I think if one of you wants to wait that you should be able to wait until the right moment. If my husband asked me to wait, I would. I understand why your wife wants to know the sex for the shower but honestly when I had my shower I ended up returning some of it b/c I got so much of one size for the baby. So more than likely your wife will be going back to the store for some reason, and maybe then she can take the opportunity to swap out her neutral colored gifts for pink or blue items? I don't know what else to say, unless you two can talk with the doctor on a 3 way call or something? Best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy, children are wonderful and so much fun. Okay, how's this? She sends the results to you in the mail, without looking at them.
YOU open them, and call her. Don't open them until she is on the phone. Then you know, and she will have a copy at home (the doctor's office will provide two if you ask), and you tell her to open the envelope also.
You will BOTH find out within seconds and be talking while you do.
It would be really nice if someone is filming with a video or video camera EACH of you as you are talking and then those videos and finding out the results while together (on the phone) would be SO much fun to look at again, when you get home!

Let her have her fun, but set up some ground rules before she looks because it could easily be slipped in normal everyday conversation. For example if the two of you are chit chatting and she says while she was out shopping she found the most adorable baseball outfit for the baby, then the surprise for you is spoiled. However good luck with enforcing such a rule because most women love to talk about what they found while they were out shopping.

Congratulations too. I'd go with the new technology...it's available so why not? Going with all yellow is fine but Gee, I think I would have liked to have known if it were possible when my son was born. Being in your situation...it is something to think about if you know, and only wonder about if you don't.
So, my vote is to go with it...enjoy the joy ASAP.
By the way...thank you for serving, we are all praying for you guys and gals and want you all home safe and sound real soon.

I say let her peek, especially for the baby shower. It will make things easier for friends to buy appropiate gifts. Congrats on the baby, and THANK YOU for being there. I wish you a safe tour and safe passage home!!!! I honestly appreciate your sacrifice to our Country. One of my close friends from Culinary school is in Southern Iraq, and you all have my respect and support!!!

Thats a tough one. I remember when I was pregnant I could not wait to find out what I was having. I knew in my heart it was a girl and wouldnt you know it I was right :-) I can understand though why you would want to find out together. I think that I'd do it your way. Good luck and congrats.
