I'm not a christian but I was just reading over romans and came across chapter 7 and was wondering how women could follow a religion that was so male shovanistic_____Also I'd like some of the christians to remember this in future answers Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you: bless and do not curse. Some of you seem to only follow some aspects of your religion. that must be a pretty sweet deal. I try to be respectfull to all, But you have to question in a search for knowledge. Don't take it so personal.

there are baptist churches in my area that will not allow a woman to participate if they have ever been divorced. It's actully quite common here in the bible belt.

And it is romans 12:14 but then again with all the variations of the bible out there it wouldn't surprise me if yours was different. In which lies another point that I won't even get into.

The bible is an absurd storybook written by men. Women who choose to follow it deserve to be treated just as the book advocates.

Many people misinterpret the Bible because they don't practise what it says but rather practise the teachings of men. Even their worship is an abomination(Mark 7:7).
The truth is that Paul's writings are easily taken out of context and misinterpreted by the unlearned and unstable. Peter himself says that in 2 Peter 3:15,16.
Marriage is very important in God's eyes because it represents Jesus' marriage to His Church. I don't know why so many people get the idea that the Bible puts women down. You should keep on reading because it is the Bible that gives them a role that suits women and where they find fulfillment, because it is how they were created. No other religion speaks more lovingly towards women then the Bible. For example Ephesians 5:33
Regarding Romans 12:14 read Matthew 5:44; Luke 6:28. As you said, it is really, really sad that there are so many who profess to be Christians but are deceivers of themselves and others. The Bible prophecies about such "Christians" in many passages but especially 2 Timothy 3:1-5.
Anyone who looks at other men will be dissapointed. Look to Jesus and you will find peace, joy, fulfillment and you will never be dissapointed again.
I suggest that you pray before you read the Bible, if you are really seeking, and ask God to teach you because the carnal mind cannot understand it. 1 Corinthians 2:14

Like I said to the other million people who say that Christians only hate. It's because they're human not Christian, take a look at yourself and tell me if your tolerant and loving of others. Stop acting like your tolerant when you won't tolerate Christianity. Also why do you think that it's male chauvinistic to be against adultery? Another thing that I just noticed, I believe that you have the wrong book of the bible, because Romans 12:14 is this:
" We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin."
Be careful how you state your questions in future.

Jesus had great respect for woman. Remember, the first person he spoke to after his resurrection was a woman. A lot of the scriptures in the King James version were translated from the original texts wrongly by men, in a time when woman were not thought very highly of. I'm Baptist, and in the past men were held to the same standards as women when it came to divorce and remarriage. Things are changing though. We now have some Deacons who are remarried, and the ceiling didn't fall in on us!

If I understand Rom 7 correctly it is not really talking about the role of women in Christianity, but about a Christians relationship to the law. It is really an allegory about freedom that is found in Christ. When reading the bible it is also important to be able to interpret the cultural background of the writers. Some of the biblical statements about the role of women are really applicable to that culture but not always to ours. Cultures are dynamic and God is able to relate to people of all ages. The truth does not change, what is sin is still sin, but people and society do change and God is not intimidated by that. Good luck reading Romans.

The passage you refer to, as well as other passages referring to the same topic, are commonly applied by religions not believing in divorce and remarriage (like Catholics and some Protestants) to both men and women. Something written in an incredibly chauvenistic time and place is not thrown out, but rather examined for principle being talked about. It is, after all, the principle of an issue rather than the letter of the law that matters in the great scheme of things.

To be honest, I was raised a Catholic. Now that I'm older, I've researched other religions. I choose what I want to believe and have my own opinions. However I still attend a Catholic church. The answer is faith. In my community, my church is very close-knit. It's a place where I can go to show my faith, but in all reality, I don't believe everything that is preached there exactly how it was said. Women were not only stepped on in the church, that's just how the society was back then. However that didn't stop them from existing in society.

I would say TN is about as much bible belt as you can get, and in the baptist churches while women can't be ministers, divorce has no issue in thier being sunday school teachers, or toher helpers in the church

I don't know of one baptist church in our town that would have that restriction.

And I don't beleive that each person being special and having thier own place and purpose in life is a bad thing,
It makes each more speical in thier pupose for God and for each other

God created men and women and set up the guidelines for social order. He ought to know what's best, don't ya think?

I have no problem with it.

As far as Romans 12:14, do you think parents who don't discipline their children are blessing them or setting them up for a hard life down the road?

A good Christian is going to tell you where your current choices will land you. Telling you squarely that you're heading for hell IS blessing you.

If we were to hold our peace and not warn you of the consequences of your sin, we wouldn't be doing the work of our Lord.

Read Ephsians 5 there is God instruction for marrage... The greater burden is placed upon the husband... for the woman in a marrage to a true man of The Faith there could be no more secure marrage... I know many who have such marrages... they are the most secure I have ever seen or heard of...This is the testimony of the wives to me. If I had been of The Faith back when... I would not have caused the hurt I did in two failed marrages... But it only works if both are faithful to God

Did I miss something in Romans 7? It sounds like scripture against divorce, not against women. But, to be honest, I used to agree with you, until I had kids. Then it was like someone came into my house and rewrote my old Bible. It all meant something different.

I'd like to ask you something....as a former Democrat and woman's libber... When I was told I had to accept perjury from my President because every man deserves the right to cheat on his wife... Should I still be a Democrat???????????
