Here's a website you can go to: www.caloriesperhour.com
It can tell you how much of a calories deficit you need in order to lose a certain amount of weight.
But be sure to exercise and eat properly. Drinking a lot of water is good for you. The avergae person should drink 8 glasses a day.
There was also something i heard but I'm not too sure if it works. Eat one meal a day with only raw vegetables. I don't know if that one works but it's what I've heard.
Hmm... there are many other ways to lose weight to. You can try searching for them or by going to a doctor.

I'd check with your doctor first, because losing large amounts of weight can have effects of its own. But if you're serious, that's great!
Exercise is important, but make sure you do it somewhere where there's clean air (not outside near traffic... very, very important you could ruin your lungs).
If it were me, I would eliminate as many processed foods as is humanly possible, and focus on fresh (cooked and raw) vegetables and lean protein, a little bit of healthy unsaturated fat and eliminate frying, with some whole grains thrown in. Satisfy your sweet tooth with fresh fruits a couple of times a day. That with exercise, and keep doing it, you should get somewhere. 2-2.5 pounds a week is the safety threshhold if you're not being monitored by a doctor regularly (in other words, no more). Good luck!
I bring my lunch in a thermos every day, and it has some lean meat, a ton of veggies, broth and a variety of interesting spices. It has helped me become very healthy, and it tastes fabulous (people at my office always say how jealous they are). Takes about 20 minutes to prepare before work. Email me if you want the recipe guidelines.
And oh yes (one of the prior posters just reminded me)... I drink about 2-4 quarts of water a day, mostly boiled and warm (very, very good for you that way, and easier to get down too), I keep it in another thermos in my office. Sometimes I add a little herbal tea to it to make it more interesting, but you'd be surprised how delicious warm water is. And boiling it means you can (likely) use your tap water.

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. How much you need to maintain your current weight is dependent on your age, sex, weight and activity level.
I started my Jenny Craig diet at 305 lbs. I maintain at about 3200 calories a day. So to lose, I should eat less than that. If I eat 500 calories less than that per day, then I should lose about 1 lb. a week. A 1000 less calories, would = 2 pounds per week, etc. Of course, as you lose substantial amounts of weight, you'll have to re-adjust your calculations.
There are several web sites that will help you calculate what you need to maintain. I've linked to one of them.
I'd be willing to bet you need about 3,500 calories per day to maintain, so if you cut down to 2,500 calories, which is a normal mans maintenance calories, you'd lose about 2 lbs a week.
Melinda - 1200 to 1500 calories a day for a 365 lb man is way to little. He should be eating at least 2000 per day. Eating too little makes a diet to hard to stay on.

i am 5'6" and used to be 256 lbs. One day about 4 months ago i decided it was time to lose the weight, so i put myself on a 2000 calorie diet. The male body burns 12x its body weight in calories everyday(just to do stuff like breathe and stay alive). So you should aim to eat less than that if you want to lose weigh without exercise. You have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1lb of fat. So do the math and you should be fine.
FYI: I am currently at 195lbs after 4 months

Its all about calories in and calories out. A pound of fat is about 3500 calories so i figure you can do the math. Make sure to drink water it can increase the the rate your metabolism goes and can supress appetite and stay away from fatty foods. When you eat meat try to stay with lean meats. Make sure to eat a balanced diet and start EXERCISING.

try to take in between 1200 to 1500 calories per day. not over 1500. and be sure to drink lots of water, its good for you and will help you feel fuller. protien promotes healthy muscles, which burn more calories than fat, and protien also helps you feel fuller longer. be sure to exercise for at LEAST 30 minutes a day and do both cardio and weight training. start slowly, do a little more each time. i found this website with a lot of helpful info....www.sparkpeople.com

Below is a the blog of a guy who had gastric bypass surgery when he weighed 366.
Even if that is not an option...the foods he ate after surgery may be a help to you.
MY advice is to take it slow...you didn't get that weight in a year, don't try to lose it in a year
