My bro is 59 and may need a liver transplant and I could be a possible loner but I am 54. Would it be ok at my age?

The liver is capable of regenerating itself if needed. That means you wouldn't be donating your entire liver and the remaining part would grow to compensate. The donated part would grow in your brother until it's the size he needs. It should be ok if you are a good match.

You cannot live without a liver. I believe some persons have contributed a portion of their liver for a child that had to have a transplant, but most livers transplanted into other people come from organ donors who no longer need one.

If you gave up your whole liver you would be dead. Giving up part of your liver is still a dangerous operation for both parties involved. My understanding is that Doctors prefer someone who is younger .. the liver is in better shape .. and will be easier on both your brother and the donor. What ever you decide to do .. I wish you the best ! Good Luck ! :)
