Coconut oil is somewhat healthy for the skin when it is combined with an emollient (moisturizer), such as cocoa butter, in soaps, and lotions. Coconut oil must be combined with an emollient because it has drying properties. These properties are good for oily skin, but not for regular skin. Also, make sure that you are not allergic to coconuts, or any plants related to it.

For the latter part of your question, being "organic" depends on how the coconut plant was grown. If it was grown the conventional way, then it has pesticide residues, insecticides, etc. These residues are very bad for you, and may cause hormone fluctuations, leading to acne, and other problems. Now, if the plant was grown without said chemicals, then the plant, and therefore its oils, will be organic. Furthermore, you should look at the label of the jar/container of coconut oil. If it says organic, I would leave it at the store, and research what brands are truly organic. Some say natural, but are truly not organic. In other words, do your research.

Coconut oil is only organic if it says so on the label (it should say "certified organic" and the name of the organisation that certified it).
Go to a natural health food store or herbalist.

I cede to Isabelle.
Also, it is not true that everything that comes from a living thing is organic. It's organic if it hasn't been genetically altered or covered in pesticides (basically).
And I was talking about oil for the skin (I like it too!).

Coconut oil is very good for the hair. In India it is a revered hair cosmetic.

Coconut oil is the worst for you. That's why theaters don't use it for making their popcorn anymore. It doesn't taste as good now.
