RENT, HEAT, WATER, CLOTHES, BEDDING, LAUNDRY SOAP, ETC. THESE ARE ALL THINGS YOUR CHILD NEEDS SO WHAT IS HIS PROBLEM,,SOUNDS LIKE MAYBE HE IS A LITTLE BITTER HE HAS TO PAY SUPPORT. HE WILL GET OVER IT, OR AT LEAST HE IS GOING TO HAVE TO ACCEPT IT, IT WON'T CHANGE UNTIL SHE IS 18.

Child support is for HALF of the child's living expenses, and is factored out to be about 1/3 of the non-custodial parent's salary. Depending on how you and your ex set it up you should at least be claiming her on your income tax for 6 months and he for the other 6. Because you BOTH are actually supporting your daughter, you are supplying her with a home (albeit he pays for part of that rent and bills, not ALL of them). You are responsible for your own expenses, your share of the rent and the bills, your ex doesn't have to pay for those. All he is responsible for is your daughter's share/his 1/3 that he pays to you for HER care and feeding. Anything over that is YOUR responsiblity.

Umm, does he not realize that rent and electricity are things that your daughter needs to survive? And that those bills are higher because you have your daughter living there with you. If he had her he would have extra rent for an extra room and extra utility bills as well. These are basic needs for survival and yes your child support is to be disbursed by you for whatever you feel is neccesary! Don't tell him what you speant it on- what does he think you should do with it? Buy her toys and clothes and sugar to rot her teeth?

What does he think you should use it for? Weekly shopping sprees at Toys R Us? The money should go towards general living expenses including everything from utilities and rent to school supplies and groceries. Your ex sounds like an idiot. As the custodial parent, you use that money in any way you see fit to add to your daughters quality of life. If that means heat and hot water, so be it. I'm curious, though....what one specific thing does he think the money should be used for? (If you don't mind saying)

You and right - child support is and can be used to pay for the living expenses of the child -- and that of the Mother/parent paying for the living arrangements. If you need to pay rent, then part of the child support money can go to rent! You do not need to descibe and detail out for him every place the dollars that he gives you for support of your child goes....

As long as a child is well feed, has clean, decent clothes that fit and are not worn out, has a decent roof over their head, water to bathe in, warmth in the winter, coolness in the summer, and is not abused, then I don't think the non-custodial parent has any say so what so ever what the custodial parent does with the child support. Whether a new pair of shoes comes out of the child support or out of the custodial parents paycheck, what does it really matter? At least the kid has decent shoes, right?

Average out how much food she eats, how much toilet paper she uses, how much electricty she uses, how much water she uses, and any other nessecities she uses, and give him an itemized statement for that.

My ex pulled that on me before, with his meager $200.00 a month. My son eats that much in a month.

Yes, the first answer says it all. YOU spend the money for her to have water a roof over her head, electricity etc. Child support is for those needs.
It sounds like he is upset because you are "getting your bills paid". I went through the same thing. My sons dad thought the ENTIRE check should be to buy clothing and shoes- and video games (LOL).

Yes, you can use a percentage of the child support for rent and household related expenses that relate to the comforts of raising the child. They are not meant soley for clothing the child or supplying gifts.

The child support is owed to the parent not the child. As long as you are adequately providing for the child it doesn't matter what you spend it on. But if you spend it on something like crack cocaine, then perhaps a case can be made against you for custody.

I had a smiliar fight with my ex about child support. He asked me for a detailed LIST of my expenses. I told him no way- but later on decided to make a list. Not only does child support help with rent and bills...think of ALL the stuff you do for your child. toys. movies. school pictures. field trip money. birthdays, holidays, halloween costumes, clothing, shoes- the list goes on and on. My child support doesn't cover 1/3 of my costs for rasing my child!

Child support is used for the overall care of the child. Check with your state on the amount you should get for your child. It all depends on his income and I think how much your overall expenses are.
