I have an idea for a website. Once it's built, how can I get it know throughout the world? I can't believe that word-of-mouth alone made YOUTUBE and WIKIPEDIA so well-known. Any ideas?

BOTH were the results of a lot of hard work, a LOT of people working to make them work, and a LOT of equipment. If people cannot get to your site, it will die quickly. And BOTH were different. I just am not sure what is so great about watching really poor quality videos on Youtube. Some are funny, the rest are stupid.

1. SEO: is the key.
If you can put the searchable keywords as key tags for your webpages then you would surely taste success.
2. BLOGGIN: Get on to blogging even before the launch...i mean you can also use blogging to know the likelyhood of success of your idea without articulating it as such.
3: USABILITY: will play an important part too because all the people who will initially come have to have the ease of navigation and using the site.

all the best!!

First start with a simple web site of your own, then start expanding it . Microsoft (free domain and hosting for life) , Google (Googlepages, Blogger) , Yahoo (Geocities), Freewebs are some of the companies offering free websites with design tools . Why not apply for a loan? If you've done your homework and can explain to the bank why your website will be a success I'm sure they'll front you the money.
