I think it may be a girl cat as theres no fighting, they just sit around her and watch. But now my male cat is making weird sounds at night and burrowing down into the blankets. He seems distressed at times and then starts purring as soon as he's under the blanket.Does anyone know what this behaviour could mean? He's eatng fine and otherwise seems himself. We found him as a stray and he is nuetered.

I hope that you have all his shots up to date. All cats, at least all that I have known, like to snuggle in under the blanket. All four of mine do it. they either want attention or a warm place to sleep.
That's my guess. Others might have other good opinions.

Cats are like people they like friends too.
If you had your dingleberries taken wouldn't you want to diddle even though you couldn't.
