The "wanna be friends" part kind of creeps me out. I would wonder, why should I be friends with you? I don't even know you. What prank are you pulling? You should get to know the girl so you will be friends. I would just say, hi and introduce yourself. Say you noticed her and thought she was -give compliment here- . That should start a conversation.

I had this happen to me and I tried to cut off the dude, but he wouldn't leave; so I did become his friend and then I married him. Nine years later and two kids later, we left each other. Now, I do not talk to a guy unless he talks to me and even then I do not go and become friends right away. They have to really win me over and I have to get to know them well.

I'd assume he was either making fun of me or using a cheesy pick-up line. A little TOO direct, that statement is. Try to find something about her clothing or appearance you can relate to. (Maybe there's a brand name on her shirt? Or a wristband that says a catchy quote. Stuff like that.)

I would be flattered. I can give my name & exchange a few pleasantries & that's it! Although nothing is wrong in being friendly, I'll still keep some distance for my own security.

i dunno. it wuld be pretty kool to have a random person come up to me and ask me to be my friend, but it sould be kind of creepy. so just be careful how you say it
