This year I have developed 2 cists, one in my thigh and one in my lower back. The one in my lower back became infected and swelled to the size of a marble, which made this huge red irritated, sore, itchy spot on my back. I had to take medication for it but it was still awful. Does anyone know how to deal with a cist that gets infected? can this be dangerous?

You should see a doctor. Many doctors mis-diagnose hidradenitis suppurative, but you should ask about it.

Your Doctor is the best one to answer that question. Most usually a doc will lance (drain) a cyst. It could also be a boil. Do not attempt to pop it yourself as that will make it worse and can cause infection. Go back to the Doctor.

once you get them, you are prone to keep getting them, it sucks. ive had 3 so far, and have a huge scar on my shoulder where i had to have it drained (gross). I had one on my tailbone that got infected and they just gave me medication for it as well, you really cant do much. i dont think its dangerous, just painful.

I have had a few. The ONLY way to deal with it is to have it surgically removed.
