I was not able to find a word for moose, but 'tarandrus' is reindeer, 'alces' is elk, and 'cervus' is stag. Someone told you mus, but that is a mouse or rat.

Apparently Julius Caesar named the moose alces, which sounds like elk in English. See the website below for the reason behind the different names. People are giving you the scientific name for moose, which is alces alces, but a single moose in Latin would just be called alces.

Transatlantic disconnect.

What Europeans have historically called an elk is Alces alces. This is the same animal North Americans call a moose.

Americans usually call the wapiti, Cervus canadensis, an elk.

The Latin word for elk is "alces".

Someone mention tarandus. Rangifer tarandus is, domestically and in Europe, the reindeer. In the wild, and in North America, it's the caribou.
