I have noticed quite a few answers here are under the mistaken impression that Muslims..wish to attack Christian or Western cullture and want to ban it.
A few people have even said that because of Muslims christmas is not allowed to be celebrated openly in the UK...

Well I want to make it clear.. I love Christmas..I can't wait for that time of year.. I love the lights in the streets and I always but Christmas presents. I went to a Christian school. And want my child to learn Christianity as well as every other religion and belief system (including atheism)

And a few have even said that Muslims only defend their own, and are happy for other religions to be persecuted..
Look at this question. I make it clear that I defend the right for a Christian woman to wear a cruxifix

No I was not aware that most Muslims do not wish to attack Western culture! It would be great to hear Muslims say this loudly because it is not whats on TV and not what we are lead to believe! And anything anti Western (anti freedom) scares me to death!

Thanks for telling me. Are you saying only the fanatics get on TV?

I respect your right to practise your religion and glad you feel the same way I do! After Sept 11th I felt very sorry for UK Muslims who were attacked by idiots! And I have to say I fear Islam because I thought they were out to convert us by any force nesesary. I still thought that in a free nation you have the right to practise your religion with out harm or hindrance. In other words I would defend your right to your freedom even if I thought your religion was really frightening!

I guess you are very misunderstood! I wish more Muslims would speak up and say how they feel about Western culture and what they believe!

You know a lot of christians are under the illusion that christmas is about the birth of christ and yet they'll spend and shop till they drop.

The Christmas that most of us love is a commercial one with all those bright cheerful pretty lights and lovely little goodies, of course the fact it is costly has no bearing we all love christmas so much we have bought into the commercial aspects of it.

Christmas has always been a pagan festival. But the Roman Catholic church sought to gain controls over such roudy celebrations in Rome over the period of the Saturnalia that bit by bit the clergy decided to re-interpret the scriptures they had to re -time the birth of Christ. This was uncanny as the Soothsayers, the Magi, and the early Zocrastinistic cult had recorded the passage of a very bright Star, something close to a Supanova in the night sky.

Hence the the Christian Christmas story that we are told every christmas is flawed. It is a lovely story but still flawed with inaccuracies. The real christ child was born in March or April and by the time the wise men from afar, three kings, and two shepherds tending there sheep got to the infant Jesus the boy was three years of age. But we love the idea of the child Jesus being a baby in a manger. Symbolising a new start in life and saving grace represented in a baby. How sweet.

I went to a C of E school and I still have all my notebooks on the religions we covered in our religions of the world classes.

I personally don't think you need a religion or faith to be a good person. Atheists have a self belief along similar lines to this. Atheism is often referred to as humanist.

I hope you feel settled within yourself now and less angry.

Good night.

Many people don't.

But then, many people are ignorant of the facts. If it were widely known, for instance, that Christmas isn't a Christian festival at all, but a Christianised Pagan festival, many people, not just Muslims, but Christians also, would want to see it banned. Why? Firstly, because they don't like the fact that they have been duped; secondly, because people "of the book" think Paganism is an evil religion, where we celebrate satan and all his works. Again, this is wrong. I am a Pagan, and I don't even believe in satan; satan is an Abrahamic concept.

Where does the tree come from? It doesn't mention a Christmas tree in the Bible, nor does it mention a yule log. And as for the time of year, shepherds of the holy-land would not have been watching their flocks by night in the middle of winter. No - Christmas, or more precisely, Yule, is Pagan, so if you celebrate it, you are welcome, but be under no illusions. And make sure your Imam doesn't find out!

I am a British Muslim and i completely agree with you. The christian women should have every right to wear her cross and as for Christmas well it should be celebrated as it always has been with all the fun and festivities.
What i am seeing is that it's not Muslims that wish to attack the western culture but the western media and politically correct Christians that have there own agenda and are fuelling the fire, why is it that in the west they act first then regret later ?

I believe it may depend on the individual and the country he lives in. I have never felt threatened by Muslims who live in the UK or US.

Christmas has so many non-religious customs such as Santa that I would think that most people outside of the Arab world could enjoy it. Of course, being a Christian I love to dwell on the story of the Christ Child at that time of year.

Every year I get crosser and crosser, as certain lower end 'newspapers' print a story about how some woolly, liberal local council won't be having a santa or christmas decorations because it will offend non christians!! It's complete and utter nonsense! It offends no one, and such stories just cause bad feelings and the less intelligent members of society believe this rubbish!

As for the BA Air hostess not being allowed to wear her cross, the company rules expressly say 'NO JEWELLERY!' You are allowed to wear a wedding ring, and jewellery that is required as part of a religious faith. Wearing a cross around your neck is NOT a requirement for the christian faith, therefore is not allowed. Why this story has made national news is beyond me! It just adds to a climate of intolerance and fear! If she's so determined to show her 'deep' christian beliefs, then get the cross tattooed on chest! This woman has openly broken a perfectly reasonable company rule, that is there for health and safety reasons, and dragged it in to the media spot light, she deserves to be fired!

Yes i love Christmas to, but did you know that is has nothing to do with the birth of Christ, it's a Roman Holiday, and in stead of celebrating the Birth of Christ around March we do it in December
Not a lot of people know that.
But where I work we give out things, such as gifts to all at this time of the year to celebrate Christmas, but when it comes to a Muslim Celebration the gifts are only given to Muslims, it's like Easter everyone gets the eggs,

no longer me. I hate the commercialism. I hate the hoopla and all the costly present giving that some human beings experience the might desire to take section in. i might like it extra powerful if it have been lots quieter. I have no relatives, so I rejoice quietly with pals. I hate seeing Christmas timber in October. I enjoyed it as a toddler. i think of it would recommend extra if all of us only celebrated quietly. Confine it to in line with week or so in December, I say. God knows my coronary heart. i ought to besides be trustworthy. i admire Jesus, yet i do unlike what Christmas has develop into. human beings consume like pigs, pass to events, placed on, etc. "a great existence" is depressing until eventually the final minute of the action picture. enable the thumbs pass down.

We all need to take a step back and take a deep breath. British airways is going a bit overboard.
For the record, you do post so well thought out questions. I wish more people were like you there would be less strife.
I'm atheist and support someones right to wear a crucifix.

I applaud your post. you have a valid point there but the sad thing is that there are going to be many people who persecute other religions based on their own fears, preconceived beliefs and biases. And face it, you can try and enlighten them (which you are so doing by posts such as these) but if they feel really strongly about it there is nothing much we can do to change them.

Personally I think Christmas has lost its real meaning and become too commercialised
