You dont have to, but defragging before and after would be a good idea.

best to make sure no spyware virus trojans addware is on the system and defrag the hard drive if it needs to be defrag then up date your windows you put the windows xp cd in the drive and a menu will pop up you click on install windows xp then you pick the option upgrad

It doesn't hurt to defrag the disk prior to your upgrade. It should help keep things in a logical order. But its not required.

no... just place the disc in the drive and let it do the work... it will work on top of windows ME files... some of which are needed for the upgrade
