1. People are lazy and don't want to do the work themselves (i.e. homework)

2. People are bored and would rather ask dumb questions that have no real answer.

3. If someone can have someone do the work for them then they are not stupid, they are actually very smart to just sit back and let the answers roll in.

Some people may not have a way to the library.
Others don't know how to use the internet to find the answers they need. It's the same with grocery stores. They are bursting at the seams with healthy food found along the 'outskirts' of the grocery stores.... yet some people still go to fast food joints. What's up with that???

The phenomenon is sort of like why people with lots of life-science knowledge will still go to their Doctor for a diagnosis.

Pseudo-experts arbitrate the information, adding value to it.
If you get a decent number of answers that agree, then those answers are often accurate.

If you have no entry point into a topic, human help is helpful. Why are there reference librarians?

BTW, the word is spelled "mundane". :)

I ask questions here because you can't query personal experience from a library or ask a detailed question and get a personally tailored answer from a book. So what is the point of your question? No matter what we say it won't change your opinion.

I agree. They obviously have access to the Internet so why are they not researching these answers? Do they expect "us" to do their research for them? Or maybe they are just bored and really don't need the answer the the questions they ask

some folks like to deal with others even remotely. it is fun to help others and to look at it that way. i only answer really silly questions with a bit of a twist. i hope to get to level 7 one day and retire too!

I think it's a little bit of both, what about those lazy minds who seek effortless answers to their homeworks???

most likely a mix of both...but more laziness because we americans have become increasing noted for that even though it is only a few (few being relative of course) that seem to ruin our image...
