www.petfinder.com is a great website. However do your research on the breeder because a lot of backyard breeders will advertise there as well.
I would suggest looking on the AKC's website, this is where most reputable breeders will advertise.
Please consider looking into a breed rescue group for the type of dog you are looking for. There are thousands of purebreds in shelters or rescue groups that need loving homes. They have puppies all the way up to senior citizens. I'll be happy to help you find a rescue group for the breed you want.
When you buy, a shelter pet will die!

Responsible legitimate breeders who are deeply involved with thier breed and bloodlines NEVER advertise on things like Petfinder.
Responsible breeders might have a website for their kennel but they never sell puppies online without meeting the prospective purchasers, getting an application to put on the list for a puppy and screening the buyer's suitablility
If you are seeing a lot of ads for certain breeds in your area, they are probably puppy mills - a very very very very bad thing.

I've read that breeders, especially those that advertise online, can be unscrupulous and sometimes sell sick pets. If you don't have to have a certain breed, or even if you do, look at your animal shelters first. Help save a pet and save some money.

There are no specific sites for just your area or any area for that matter.
put in a search for the breed type plus your area that you are interested in and you will find breeders that way.
