I have noticed for a while that the color is really dark and I have to adjust the brightness. Now, tonight, I turned the t.v. on and it had no color. (Just Black and White) A few minutes later, there was a loud snap and the color came back. Is my t.v. going, or is there something simple I can do to keep it from doing this again? ( The t.v is about 10 years old, btw)

What you said sounds like a really possible dangerious situation
the color going in and out and the brightness that is bad but not that dangerious the loud snap! that is. That sound came from the high voltage section in the TV set about 3000 to 4000 volts and once that goes bad the set is pretty much shot! please unplug it and throw it away or replace it as soon as possible

I kinda have to agree with all of the above.....AT 10 years old, and I doubt you have a TV LARGER than a 30 incher....it's not worth the cost to repair.....

IF it's 32 inch or larger, get a TV tech to diagnose it for only $35 to $50 trip charge. Most repairs on the large ones will run about $250 to $325 for your symptoms.

10 yrs is a good run for a TV. It's not worth fixing cause the cost of fixing it is usually as much as a new TV. I'd say go ahead and get a new TV so when this one craps out you have one and don't have to wait.

Time to toss the TV. Tube TV's are so cheap now, if it is something like 20" you can pickup a new one at walmart for $99. It is just not worth fixing TV's of that age
