There are many careers that meet your description.

In our school system, I work with counselors, behavioral health specialists, social workers, school psychologists, and psychiatrists. All of them help our children emotionally. Teachers end up doing a lot of counseling as well. Many times, they have stronger relationships with children because they see them more often than their counselor does. Children are sometimes more likely to tell a teacher, if, say, they're being abused at home than they are a counselor. I can think of one other person who works with a private organization in our community who helps children emotionally, and he doesn't even have a college degree.

You need child Psychology. You can take general psychology and then major in Child Psychology, depending on the state you may or may not need the extra training to work with children. Depends on age too. If they are young adults it's different than young children. Call your local college to find out.
